The City’s next link in the Urban Trail Network needs our help. This spring, Mount Pleasant Avenue is slated to get curb extensions, speed pillows, and raised crosswalks, as well as a two-way urban trail from Smith St to Chalkstone Ave. In order for the project to be successful and meet the needs of all residents, we need your feedback to show support.
We know that these types of projects are about much more than speeding and street design: roads that provide multiple transportation choices have wide-ranging benefits for the environment, public health and safety, equity, and prosperity for all Providence residents.
We need you to send a message of support to Mayor Elorza, Providence City Council, and David Walsh from RIDOT for the planned improvements and urge DOT to continue construction as designed and on schedule:

Background: This project was brought forth by RIDOT and the City of Providence in response to the death of a Mt. Pleasant High School teacher who was killed by a hit-and-run driver in 2015. This corridor has been part of a years-long public process which included well-attended public meetings and numerous public reviews at the City’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission meetings. RIDOT is ready for construction in the spring and the City and Our Streets Providence are playing an active role in ensuring the project continues on schedule and includes community feedback. Mount Pleasant Avenue will connect to the rest of the City’s planned 60-mile urban trail network.
